“Happiness is a journey not a destination”
Ashley Marshall, founder and designer of Azuni seeks his inspiration from his extensive travelling. Having worked as a professional chef in some of London’s top kitchens, such as The Dorchester, The Ivy and La Caprice. He used his instinctive skills of combining different flavours and ingredients to create the most delicious dishes . Ashley decided to take this talent and apply it to designing jewellery. Having immersed himself in the Native American culture, studying their ancient art and embracing their philosophy, he has developed a unique approach to design, which has filtered through to Azuni’s collections. He spent time in many places including Oaxaca, a federal state in Mexico, well known for its indigenous peoples, whom he developed a great relationship with, whilst there Ashley studied their art and embraced their culture. His unique approach to design developed during his extensive travels. On returning to the UK Ashley pursued three years studying at Sir John Cass Jewellery and Silversmithing University in London. Discovering a style of jewellery that quite literally sat ‘Between Two Worlds’ enabled Ashley to use his most creative ideas and apply them to pieces that were unique, yet accessible. Combining his passions for tribal and ancient art with modern pop culture and fashion, Ashley’s concept of ‘Urban Tribes’ was born.
Azuni’s first show in Paris was met with an incredible response, and within the first year over fifty premium stores, including Gallerie Lafayette, Le Bon Marche and Frank et fils were showcasing Azuni. Ashley’s success didn’t stop there, as Whistles and Jigsaw soon discovered his talents, and he was asked to create collections for both Paul Smith and Emanuel Engaro in Paris.
Love for Azuni has certainly spread, most notably when Kate Middleton wore Azuni’s Semi- Precious Drop Earrings on a visit to Australia and on many other occasions since. Azuni has long been a stylists favourite, featuring in the fashion press such as Vogue, Elle , Conde Naste ,Tattler, Grazia and Cosmopolitan.
Take one look at the Azuni range and you will see that each collection is unique. Ashley gathers his inspiration from many different sources and interprets it into eclectic, individual pieces of jewellery. Techniques such as hand texturing, beading, engraving and oxidizing are carried out throughout our team in central America and add a unique edge to his designs.
There is a story behind every Azuni collection. As each design has been carefully made through intense discovery of diverse cultures and styles.
